Yes, this is a very special day for my blog because I am going to make these lists that I was telling you about last time! I’ll try to keep them small!
SO! This year I really liked these...
Albums:
1. Adam Green: Minor Love: His best album so far, the songs here are all great!
2. Belle and Sebastian: Write about love: What a great comeback! “I want the world to stop” is already a hit!
3. Allo Darlin’: Allo Darlin’: They are the new indie/pop-twee stars! Saw them at the Indietracks festival this year and they were amazing
Live shows/Festivals:
1. Jens Lekman in Paris: He was amazing, the best show I’ve ever been. It was a magical night, what else could it be. A night in Paris with Jens Lekman!
2. Indietracks Festival: Apart from having the chance to watch an acoustic set in an old moving train, this festival has it all. Cool new pop bands from all over the world, living Legends and nice stages! (train, church, open air stage, indoors stage) Love it, will be there next year again.
Song:
Owen: Abandoned Bridges: I really like almost everything Mike Kinsella does.
Sitcom:
Raising Hope: Hilarious and
sweet. If you liked the movie “Juno”, you will love this one! Kind of
stupid guy sleeps with a girl who is a serial killer. She ends up in jail. He ends
up raising their child with his kind of dump family!
Movie:
Nord (“North” in English): A nice Norwegian movie about a lonely guy who travels to meet his 4(I think) year old son for the first time.
Well these are some things that I enjoyed this year! Hopefully I’ll be here next year writing about 2011! Happy Holidays everybody! I’ll try and make another post before its 2011 hehe!
A couple of weeks ago I did a post about one hit wonders n music. I got some possitive feedback about that post so here are some more one hit wonders that I remembered.
Kazzer-Pedal to the metal
Are there any people that remember this one? A super energetic Owen Wilson lookalike that raps over rock music about cars and speed. In this video he runs like the wind, kicks some bad guy's ass, plays the guitar, rocks our socks and finally defeats some really fast cars in a speed contest(by feet). In the end of the video he leaves in his car like it was just another ordinary day. This kind of music is not my cup of tea but for some reason I like this song.
Baha men - Who let the dogs out?
I used to hate this song. Now I like it (kind of)... I never understood what was wrong with these dogs? Dogs need to go out pee, poop, run and meet other dogs.
Baha-men is a band with a long history. They formed in the 70's with another name but they changed their name in 1991. This is their biggest hit (2000). They still make records and perform.
Sisqó - Thong song
OK. He had some more (minor) hits but we all remember him by this epic song and his silver hair. Eventually he got hit by a lightning because of his metal hair.(no) he entered the english big brother in 2010.
Emilia- Big big world
1999, ballads were the big thing. This girl really likes to sing about the world. Her biggest hit was called "Big Big World", in 2009 she tried to participate in the Eurovision contest (with Sweden) with the song "You're my world" and What a surprise! Her last album was called "My world". I love Sweden and Swedish artists, so I like her too.
I will come back with part 3 at some point.
P.S.
White Town is a one hit wonder artist (his biggest hit was "Your woman"). He was asked at some point how did he feel that he was a One hit wonder. His answer was one of the coolest answers I've read by an artist: Better Than being a NO hit wonder. White Town's official website
The Lazy House Cat
I watched this movie last night.
What an amazing love story. Two people from different backrounds getting to know each other and as they get closer and closer they fall in love and realize that even though they are different, deep inside they are exactly the same. A really sweet movie that will bring a tear in your eye and Butterflies in your belly. Thumps up for the soundtrack too. Great collection of songs.
Well... I wanted to watch a movie. I also wanted to write something here. I didn't watch a movie but at least I wrote about it. The imaginary film that I watched(a romantic comedy) is called " Finding love in weird places like under a dinner table while trying to find my fork. There I accidentally met you and we stared at each other for two akward minutes"
Seriously now, I love romantic comedies. When I watch one I feel like I've met an old friend.I know exactly what will happen at the end("it was great seeing you after all this time Mike! Let's meet up soon! Like, really soon! Actually let's meet in two hours!" "Yeah let's do that it will be amazing!" Three minutes later you send him a text message on his mobile appologising that you can't make it due to illness or familly issues. You meet again after three years) . But the timetable of the movie reminds me of the John Rambo movies.
It goes like this: Random John Rambo movie(or any other war movie):
1.Something Happens at the other side of the world
2.Someone is in danger
3.John Rambo gets ready
4.John Rambo arives
5.John Rambo kicks some ass
6.John Rambo kicks some more ass
7. 250 enemy soldiers shoot their guns at Rambo but no bullet touches him
8.John Rambo kicks 250 more buts
9.John Rambo saves the day
10. John Rambo is the man.
Random romantic comedy:
1.Good looking fella moves to another city
2.Good looking Girl lives in this city
3.Good looking Fella meets good looking girl at the park/subway/dinner/bookstore/concert/party but didn't ask her for her number. He only knows her name.
4. 3 or 4 days later they meet again on the street! What a coincidence since most of these movies take place in huge cities!
5.Good looking fella asks her out.She smiles and plays it hard to get but in a sweet way.He says something really smart. She smiles again and says "Ok. Let's go out for a drink but only if....(something)"
6.They go out for dinner and after dinner they go for a romantic walk. They laugh and end up doing something random that they both like (watching the night sky looking for any paranormal activity)
7.They spent the best 3 weeks of their lives being in love and doing stuff like running in the park, making love, watching movies, laughing while hugging and many more while a Jamie Cullum song plays in the backround.
8.Something happens and they have to break up.(a new job at the other side of the country, cheating,ex lover comes back and confuses good looking girl,Good looking fella lied about something and good looking girl found out....etc.
9.They spend a year appart (maybe more). This time the backround song comes from an alternative rock band who is really rock n roll but deep inside they have feelings.Suddenly one of them appears out of nowhere in front of the other person. And the guy (who has changed his hair) says something romantic and smart. She cries, they hug, they kiss,I crie,I hug my pillow.
10.Then John Rambo kicks some more ass.
When an inside joke that me and my friends make stops being funny.
Being the last one who notices that it's not funny anymore.
When I discover all the "tricks" on how to play a videogame. You can see the fun flying out of the window like a flying squirrel.
Rude people
Meeting someone on the street/bar/subway who is really enthusiastic about meeting you while you don't really know who this weirdo is.
5 Minutes later when you realize he is that guy you had met at that party who was reaaaaaally boring. He would talk to you all night long about his job while you were looking desperately at your friends trying to give them a signal to save you.
No one did... You missed the whole party...
Too late you already gave him your number...
Your real number...
Having a party at my house but being the only one who doesn't have fun. Even though you spent a fortune and a whole lot of time organizing you special b-day Theme party...
Random party quotes:
"Hey we need some more ice"
"Excuse me where is the toilet?"
"Hey your cat is on fire!!!"
"Dude, look what I can do!","No Tom! You're drunk don't do that NO DON'T Dddd... OH MY GOD!!!! Someone call an ambulance!!!! quick quick quick!"
"Ehm... excuse me, i lost my pants can I borrow your's?"
"Booze is over I'm Going home"
e.t.c.
Friends who think that you are more close friends than you really are...
Losing at a board game after six hours of playing it.
hm...I hope I am not a weirdo, I like many things! Really! But those things above, I don't like... I guess it would be lame to make a post about some things I like... The lazy house cat...
I have this friend who owns a videostore! I used to spent many hours there (at the videostore) talking with him about stuff. He is much older than me (around 15-20 years) but he is really really cool! Not your average early fourties guy. We would talk about music (from 60's psych-folk to lady gaga) to politics and movies/tv shows. I spent my whole early college years in his store! Actually I've never met him outside the store but I still consider him a friend. I went down to the store today after 1 year. Still cool to hang out there. It always feels like I'm starring on a sit com TV show about a videostore. Imagine a mix of High fidelity and Black Books! (Only much cleaner) :). Anyway, he will never know that I wrote about him on this blog so, thanks for the good times!
I love listening to one hit wonder songs. I like the idea of an artist sitting in a bar listening to his one hit song on the radio and overhearing the guys next to him talking about the song without recognizing him after all these years.
Semi drunk guy#1: Hey remember that song? Semi drunk guy#2: Yeah! What a tune! I wonder what this guy's up to nowadays?
Well here are only a few of my all time fave one hit wonder song's (I know that some of them are not exactly ONE hit wonders, but o.k...some of them I like, some of them I don't)
The new radicals-You get what you give
Well, it's the end of the nineties, pop rock is huge but not dangerous. Then this guy shows up and makes one of the best pop albums of the decade. His biggest hit is a celebrity dishing/real problem awareness anthem. He invents a new word(frienemies) and suddenly disappears without a trace! What a legend Gregg Alexander is! Nowadays you can listen to many hits with his producing skills in!
White Town-Your woman
Back to the nineties again(1997),"Your woman" is a song that can get stuck in your mind for weeks. Kinda weird Marxism involving lyrics and a melody that can't fail. Reaches #1 at the U.K. Charts and #4 in the U.S.. White town (it's an one man band) is still around releasing his album by himself and performing live around Europe.
Deep blue something - Breakfast at Tiffany's
1995: Don't know many things about these guys but I love it when the bassist of the band is also the lead singer.
The cascades-Rhythm of the rain
It's the early 60's. The singer of the band is at the army and misses his girlfriend. Then one night while he is on a ship in the middle of the ocean, he writes this song. some years later (1963) it becomes a hit.
Jennifer Paige - Crush
1998 and this song was at the right place on the right time! Worldwide success and some more less successful singles for the talented Singer. This one still plays on the radio every now and then!
The Rembrandts- I'll be there for you
Most of us love this song because of the TV series! The band didn't even write the lyrics in this one. They achieved overnight success though. Several years later they must think: "Hm... well naming our band The Rembrandts wasn't a good idea after all..."
Afroman-Because I got High
We owe a lot to this gentleman! He proved that you can rap, sing good, play the guitar, smile and still be cool! In 2000 he forgot to clean his room because he got high.... in 2010 he is still around getting high and releasing his records independently(his room's still a mess). LEGEND!
David Usher - Black Black Heart
When you look and sound as if Keanu reeves has just formed a rock band, you are about to make a hit. When this guy started out, I thought he would be huge. He didn't, but he still performs.
Nine Days - Story of a girl
Nine days Had a hit with this nice pop song in 2000. Then got sick of the music industry, got real jobs and they keep on playing shows and releasing albums independently.
Toploader-Dancing in the moonlight
What a feel good tune! This one is a cover from a king harvest song from the 70's. Some years after this hit they broke up only to reunite in 2010. I think they are making a new record this year.
Spin doctors-Two princes
Not exactly one hit wonders. Cool band too!
Many years later the singer joined the Moldy peaches.
What did we learn today?
That The lazy house cat is a geek!
(And that he loves some 90's/00's pop songs...)
In this second post I would like to write about one of my favourite movies...
It is called "Withnail and I" and its about two jobless actors in London circa 1968. In this movie we can see these two actors get stoned, drunk and eventually get out of their old and dirty apartment for a nice weekend in the English countryside. This hilarious movie was filmed in 1986 and I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to watch it in an old open air cinema! The film is full of crazy lines and extraordinarily good performances by the two leading actors Paul_McGann and Richard_E._Grant. Here is the trailer of this cult movie.
P.S.
Withnail is such a legendary movie character!
In other news, lately its been raining which is really nice because I like rain and today we got the chance to ride our bikes in the rain! Here is a song about bikes.(Not only about bikes but about the need of a new bicycle seat and acoustic guitar strings. Two things that I need right now.)
Hey, this is my first post on this blog!
I don't really know what to write here, so I will start with the day that I thought for the first time:
"hm...it would be nice to have a blog and share these moments with someone".
It was a cold Octobers morning and I had to wake up early to go to the garage and check my car's condition (well it's a pretty old car so it needs to be "hospitalized" every now and then). Afterwards I had to rush in order to be on time for my class at college! On my way to the garage (after a 30 minute ride on the bus) I saw this restaurant sign:
Well I don't eat chicken but I thought that a chicken that is caught and fried, well....isn't that super! BUT!
I have to admit that IF super chicken was a real super hero, I would love to be his sidekick. Me and Super chicken fighting crime and eat corn. We would ride our chickmobile (hey it actually sounds cool, I thought it was lame!) and make this world a better place!
After checking my cars condition I had to run in the rain to catch the bus again and then get the train to college! On my way I was reading a magazine with Woody Allen on the cover (yeah!) which was a comedy special issue!
In that issue there was a section with the 10 best pranks ever played! On number 1 there was this prank played by BBC on April 1st 1957!
BBC aired a video on the news (or a show) where they said that Swiss people were growing spaghetti on trees! This video had the collaboration of a well known news anchor which made the whole prank seem more realistic! After the airing of that video hundreds of people were calling the network and were asking for more information about the spaghetti growing business and how they can start a farm! I wish more pranks like that would be played now by the news or newspapers because I believe in humor!
Here you can watch the video of the prank:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27ugSKW4-QQ
Anyway after laughing like a stoned guy at the back of the bus while reading the magazine I finally got the train and arrived on time for my class!
The highlight of the day was the smooth jazz music that swimmed in the air and traveled through our class windows in our ears. The music was played by the small cafe at the corner while we were in the "interview techniques" class!
TIP OF THE DAY: If you mix: smooth jazz songs, a small cafe, light rain and a big cup of hot chocolate, then my friend you've got the perfect day!
That's it for now!
See you soon!
Yours truly, The lazy house cat.
